Failed Burglary attempt in a Yacht!
Description
On 12/16/2022, Cumberland Bay, on the north-western coast of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, experienced a failed robbery attempt on a yacht anchored in the area. The burglar boarded the catamaran on December 16 via an open pontoon escape hatch. However, when the owners returned to their vessel, the thief quickly exited through the escape hatch.
It is the third incident to be reported in Cumberland Bay this month. On December 1, another catamaran got robbed with various items, including a 15 HP Yamaha engine dinghy, cash, credit cards, personal documents, electronics, and an empty 20-liter jerrycan.
Yet another yacht was robbed of cash, phones, chargers, and small electronics on the same day. In response to the increase in yacht-related crimes, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has confirmed to take all necessary steps to combat this situation.
Already, tight security has been in place on The Coast Guard base at Bequia. And there has been a noticeable increase in police presence in those areas. These areas include dock yachts, both on the mainland and in the Grenadines.
In a recent address to the House of Assembly, Prime Minister Gonsalves acknowledged the concerns about the potential impact on the tourism sector and assured the public that the government is taking the issue seriously.
Apart from government intervention to fix these issues, the safety apps like POTP can ensure the protection and security of those who visit and enjoy the stunning beauty of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a tourist. In case you need it can track you via GPS. Also, it notifies you if you are going through a red alert place. Being a visitor to a new country, this feature of the POTP app has helped many of its users.
