Increasing Crime Wave in Kenya Raises Great Concern!
Description
The number of kidnappings, muggings, and murders in Kenya is rising. They have been happening alarmingly often since last year. However, what is more, upsetting is that those who commit these horrible crimes, such as kidnappings, torturing, and killings, frequently target helpless children.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has informed that there was a 16.7% increase in crime reported to the police. According to the Economic Survey 2022 by KNBS, stealing was the most reported crime by 35.1 per cent, as Criminal damage and Dangerous drugs followed by 31.1 per cent and 28.3 per cent.
Kenyan crime trends, in particular, are often changing, making it challenging for law enforcement to remain watchful. Global technological improvements have led to an increase in criminal behavior. Terrorism, maritime piracy, human, drug, and weapons trafficking, as well as cybercrime, are Kenya's main issues.
Solving any of these issues is not an easy task. To start with, Kenya's open borders and the gang-infested interior is mostly to blame for all violence in the nation. Around Kenya are the failed state of Somalia, the violently conflicted Sudan, and the lawless places of Ethiopia and Uganda. Without effective border management, there is no practical way to build a secure nation. In addition to people trafficking, there is a terrible and growing amount of transportation of guns and drugs throughout Kenya. Weed cultivation does not occur in Kenya. But, these are imported through Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan, all surrounded by Kenya. Crime is no longer as clearly defined and easily traceable as it was. Many developing countries, like Kenya, have experienced the rise of technical crime due to recent technological breakthroughs. Nevertheless, the government can take extreme measures, encouraging people to use safety applications like POTP. Such apps work with an active monitoring unit. This vigilant unit creates an alert during an
emergency, saving many people's lives.
