Lifeboats dispatched after a passenger ferry in the Channel catches fire
Description
I will never forget a terrible incident of my first ferry experience, which I witnessed being a part of. With the Innisfree boat, I had the opportunity to embark on a water adventure with my friends. Yet, there came a turning point in my life that I believed would be fatal. The fire started in the engine room when the Island of Innisfree ferry was traveling between Dover and Calais across the Channel. The engine room caught fire at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The ship, which was carrying 94 passengers and 89 staff members, remained at anchor in the Channel. A salvage tugboat from France was dispatched with the lifeboats from England. However, Irish Ferries, which owns the vessel, reported all passengers and crew members were safe. When the fire started in the engine room, the Island of Innisfree was about halfway across the English Channel. A small fire in the engine room can potentially cause significant damage to the ship and put passengers and crew at risk. I was relieved when I heard the crew was alert and able to respond quickly. Such a fire in the vessel can be a dangerous situation. Fortunately, everyone got evacuated safely.
My Thoughts
Presently, the primary cause of the fire in the engine room is under investigation. However, I have learned that our safety should be the priority. For this reason, I downloaded the POTP app, which has features for live tracking, recording, and reporting such occurrences. It might not accompany you on your travels, but it can inform you of the places you can go without risk. Press the button to request emergency assistance if you are in any unforeseen circumstances. The active monitoring agent will direct you further in a matter of seconds.
