Mattress Fire Raises Emergency Alert

On January 17th, a sudden mishap occurred on Saint Vincent Street in Stratford. It started with a fire breakout in one of the basements of a house.
The Fire Authorities confirmed that all of the family members were able to escape the fire with the help of the fire alarm.
According to Stratford Fire Chief John Paradis, emergency responders were sent to the St. Vincent Street residence around 8 a.m. when this incident occurred. Someone passing by noticed and informed the police about the smoke pouring out of a basement window. According to Paradis, the son of this family walked downstairs after hearing the smoke alarm. Everybody from the house came out immediately.
According to Paradis, firefighters could put out a mattress fire starting in the basement rapidly. There were four persons and two cats at the time of the fire. The good news is that there were no reported injuries.
St. Josephs's's Catholic Elementary School is situated just across the street from this house. As a precautionary measure, the Fire Authority asked the parents of the students of this school to stay off St. Vincent Street while dropping off their children.
According to Paradis, the smoke was under control the next day. An investigation is still in process to find out the source of this fire. There is no assessment of the damage yet.
