Nimba Kwado switches sides to support President Weah's reelection bid in Liberia
Description
A group called Nimba Kwado, which supported President George Weah in 2017 through Senator Prince Johnson’s Movement for Reconstruction and Unification (MRU) Party, has confirmed that it will continue supporting Weah, even though Senator Johnson has said his party won't support the President in the upcoming election.
The group met with Weah and endorsed his reelection bid. According to the group's president, they are supporting Weah directly now because of the development happening in the country. Nimba Kwado is a big political group in Nimba County. They supported President George Weah in the last election. They did this through Senator Prince Johnson’s Movement for Reconstruction and Unification (MRU) Party.
This party helped Weah's party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), win in Nimba County. Senator Johnson's relationship with President Weah was good at first. But it got worse after they had some arguments. Senator Johnson has said that his party won't support President Weah in the forthcoming election. Over the weekend, Nimba Kwado met with President Weah to endorse his reelection bid.
The group's president said that they are supporting Weah owing to the development happening in the country. He promised that his organization will go to towns and villages to talk to people about registering to vote. He also said that they will be working hard to make sure that Weah is reelected in the approaching election.
My Thoughts
Supporting a particular political party is a democratic right of an adult who has the right to vote. The issue arises when due to the merger or demolishing of alignment of two political parties, the riots and all raises in a country.
