The mother who killed the children receives a 17-year sentence

Flossy Cherono, a 34-year-old woman who admitted to killing her two children and dumping their bodies in a pit latrine, has been sentenced to 17 years by the High Court in Eldoret, Kenya.
Cherono killed her 11-year-old daughter and 7-year-old daughter in the Kaburwo area, Nandi County, after finding a suitor. He was unwilling to marry her because she had children. She then planned and killed her two daughters. And after killing them, she fled the scene with her items after dumping the bodies in the latrine. A neighbor who detected the foul odor alerted authorities. Cherono pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges after striking a plea deal with the prosecution. Justice Reuben Nyakundi criticized Cherono for her decision to kill her children, calling it disheartening and emphasizing that parents are supposed to protect their children. 
According to a post-mortem report, she strangled one of her daughters. The other had a head injury. Justice Nyakundi argued that instead of killing her children, Cherono should have sought help from relatives in caring for them.
