Vande Bharat Express Was Stoned Once More in West Bengal
Description
The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express was pelted with stones on Tuesday for the second time in two days after the virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to railway officials, the glass windows in coaches C-3 and C-6 were damaged when the train entered the NJP station around 1:30 pm.
A source in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) said they noticed the cracked glass after the Howrah-bound train entered the New Jalpaiguri station on Tuesday evening. A complaint was lodged then at the Samsi post of the RPF.
On Tuesday, the railways conducted a high-level meeting in the Katihar division of NF Railways to assess the damages after vandals pelted stones at the train on Monday. The incident resulted in a political slugfest, with TMC and BJP demanding an investigation. The GRP and RPF said they have taken several steps to stop such incidents in the future.
According to a GRP official, a WhatsApp group has been created exclusively to share the train status after it crosses every station in its journey between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri station.
My thoughts
This kind of incident occurring is just pathetic. Investigations should be started immediately to find out the probe. Also, awareness campaigns can be started in various stations to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Vande Bharat is more than pride for us. So, along with RPF and GRP, we should be extra careful to prevent such incidents in the future.
