Woman charged with scalding husband's face with suspected acidic substance in their Muthaiga home
Description
A woman has been charged with assault for allegedly scalding her husband's face with a substance believed to be acidic. Ann Njambi, a 53-year-old businesswoman, is accused of causing actual bodily harm to Anthony Mwangi in their home at Balozi estate in Muthaiga North, Nairobi on April 1. According to reports, Mwangi was leaving the bathroom when he was splashed with a substance on his face allegedly by his wife, who then proceeded to punch him while demanding money. He managed to escape and called the police, who arrested Njambi and took her to the Muthaiga police station. Mwangi was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he was informed that the substance was likely a poisonous chemical. Mwangi later told the police that his wife had been threatening him for the past three years, and their dispute stems from a property they co-own within Kiambu County, which has existed since 2017. Njambi, on the other hand, claimed that she was demanding money from her husband after he sold her car. During her hearing before Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti of Makadara Law Courts, Njambi denied the charges against her and was released on a cash bail of Sh15,000. The case will be mentioned again on May 17, with the hearing set to start on September 14. Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects many families around the world.
