A boat capsizes in Volta Lake, killing at least 5 people
Description
At least five people have died in a boat accident in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The accident happened on Saturday, March 18, 2023, when a boat capsized in the Volta Lake at Azizakpe in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region. Volta Lake is an artificial lake in Ghana. It is on the Akosombo Dam. When the accident occurred, people were going to a funeral from Azizanya to Azizakpe, an over-bank community.
Strong winds allegedly caused the accident.
A survivor, Gifty Mamle Agbasi, mentioned everyone on the canoe was not wearing life jackets. She added that there were no life jackets onboard, and apart from two crates of onboard drinks, the canoe carried no goods. The operator told them nothing would happen, even though the passengers were too much more than expected.
A few minutes after the canoe set out, the boat capsized, but Gifty was lucky to have been saved by some rescuers who hurried in with canoes.
My Thoughts
A safety app such as Pulse of the People is the most excellent help to monitor this type of tragic mishap. In what way? Using this app, you can transmit a live alert and notify about the unsafe situation. I used it once when I was in a similar kind of situation.
It worked great for me and saved me on a deep lake. Due to some technical error, the boat was about to drown.
The Live Help option on POTP could save all of us.
