In several Caribbean nations, the issues of crime and the standard of justice have taken center stage in public discourse and are significant public policy concerns. Considering Jamaica's unpleasant image for having a high percentage of violent crime, this issue may be particularly severe here.

In 2022, this country was the second most dangerous country worldwide, with the homicide rate of 43.85 per 100000 people living there.
 
Organized crimes, including drug trafficking, abduction, depravity, and violent crimes, are the most common. Gangs and organized crime, which are significant contributors to violence, notably homicide, are blamed for Jamaica's crime problems. The relationship between the high murder rate and poverty could be possibly due to the absence of a father's role in the family, which may lead to other crimes like murder or jail. As a result, 42 percent of Jamaican homes are headed by women, making it more difficult for the mother to support the family financially.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson recently raised the alarm about a concerning pattern of several homicides during a press conference. In September 2022 alone, there were 19 multiple murders, including eighteen double murders and one triple murder.

According to General Anderson, the police believe the increase results from how simple it has become for more criminals to obtain weapons and ammunition.
