Recent reports suggest that those contaminated drugs are increasingly making their way into the market, causing a life threat to public health.
Last month, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) mentioned to the citizens of Ghana that they should be cautious while purchasing any anti-malaria medicine.
The counterfeit drug, Combiart Tablet, did not contain any of the two active pharmaceutical ingredients stated on the label.
The manufacturer of the alleged fake drug is Strides and Arcolab Ltd from India, with batch number 722519. The manufacturing date of this drug is 03/2021, and the expiry date of 02/2024.
It is a simple way to earn some extra money. It is a ridiculous and inhuman action. Anti-malaria drug is a life-saving drugs. Malaria is spreading in Ghana at a very rapid level. The Health Department of this country should take some vital steps to fight against this crime.
The FDA has called on health workers and the general public to be vigilant and report to the authority the presence of any counterfeit drugs.
However, naming and shaming alone will not be enough to tackle this growing problem. The companies doing this should get harsh sentences to serve as deterrents for this act.
It is time to go deeper and uncover the root causes of drug contamination. The pharmaceutical industry must be held accountable for the harm caused by its products.
Pulse of the People, a safety app, is dead against this crime. It appeals to its users to report them if they find out any medicine shop is selling such contaminated medicines.
