High Crime Rates in Turkey Are Raising Concerns!

Over the past few years, the crime rate in Turkey seems to have increased by approximately 62%. Each year it is growing by at least 2%. The crime rate in Turkey in 2020 was 2.48, which increased by 3.31% from 2019. With its extensive borders and strategic location at the intersection of Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, Turkey is the major player in the international markets for human trafficking and people smuggling. Trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced labor are the two main characteristics of human trafficking, a significant criminal enterprise in Turkey. Most of the country's tourist destinations, major cities, and border cities are also hotspots for human trafficking. Along with forced marriage and forced begging, human trafficking in Turkey also takes place for harvesting organs. The border economy along the Caucasian and Iranian borders heavily depends on human trafficking, which is the lifeblood of entire neighborhoods in Istanbul and other large cities.

Pickpocketing and other opportunistic crimes are a problem in Turkey, especially at popular tourist destinations like Sultanahmet, Taksim, and the Grand Bazaar. One of the main goals of governments is to improve people's quality of life. An increase in crime or a change in the crime pattern impacts our lives. In unsustainable life and quality, it can be too late to take action and be aware of the spatial and temporal changes. Criminal activity is no longer as well-defined and traceable as it once was. Recent technological advancements are the main reason for increased technical crime in several nations, including Turkey. But the government can go beyond by pressuring citizens to adopt security software like POTP. These applications function with a live monitoring device. This watchful device issues an alert during a crisis, saving countless lives.
