Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a state of emergency over surging crime!
Description
Jamaica is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and as the birthplace of reggae singer Bob Marley. Nothing beats sipping Blue Mountain coffee while gazing out at gorgeous waterfalls in Jamaica. Unfortunately, this country is more at risk due to surging crime rates.
Considering the high crime rates, Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a state of emergency on November 16, 2022, in different areas, like the capital city of Kingston and the tourist destination Montego Bay.
Be it armed robberies, sexual assaults, or even home invasions, there is no stopping these violent crimes. Besides, local police don’t have enough resources to respond to such criminal incidents. So far, 1,360 murders between January 1 and November 13, 2022, were already filed.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has authorized officials to search buildings and arrest suspects without warrants. Last month, the U.S. State Department warned American travelers to reconsider their trip to Jamaica for the same reason.
Safety is a priority, and you must take all preventive steps. For this, install a safety app like POTP on your smartphone. It has some incredible features, like monitoring when in need, keeping records of taxi drivers, and even reporting a crime if you witness any. With this app, you can let your loved ones know your location. In case your taxi changes its direction or stops at some point, a notification goes to the officials.
