Description

Nigeria has a high rate of crime. Kidnapping, terrorism, and insurgency are a few aspects of crimes in Nigeria. However, there are other sorts of crimes that are as prevalent. The majority of recorded incidents involve crimes against property. According to Nigerians, burglaries, theft, and robberies are their top concerns.

At least 7,222 Nigerians were killed and 3,823 abducted as the country witnessed 2,840 incidents of insecurity in the first 6 months of 2022. Also, no fewer than 1,499 people were injured during various attacks witnessed in 505 local government areas of this country.

In all parts of Nigeria, kidnapping, violent crime, and inter-communal conflict are prevalent. In some areas, the threat from militant organizations and terrorism is very high. Generally, large-scale assaults are uncommon in those areas. However, two such incidents in 2022,  as claimed by the Islamic State West Africa, fall under it.
Criminal organizations prey on entire populations or single victims. Kidnapping occasionally occurs along roads like the Abuja-Kaduna highway and the Enugu- Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra. The Niger Delta area faces a severe risk of abduction and other violent assaults that target oil and gas personnel and installations. Facilities at sea must comply with this as well.
Governments may combat crime in several ways, including enacting and upholding laws and addressing their underlying causes.
The idea of preventing crime through the architecture of spaces is another one to consider.
The Government of this country should look into the formal inclusion of crime risk assessment and environmental design for crime prevention on an urgent basis. Travelers planning to visit Nigeria should be aware of the risk of kidnapping and keep an eye on local government announcements and media coverage.
One should be constantly vigilant and consider any security apps like POTP. An active monitoring unit that can take the necessary actions within just 4 seconds can raise an alert to save people's lives in the event of a crime or other emergency.
